iDom is in Capcom Cup and All is Well | Set Point! November 20, 2024
Round 1
As the weather gets colder and the days get shorter, the FGC fights on to qualify for Cups, Tours, and Championships. We had two majors, the most Street Fighter League at once this year, and more. Check out this week’s Set Point! below.
I wanted to cover SFL EU this week, but between it being on every day since Friday and my work schedule, it was too much for me to cover. I will make a full recap dedicated to SFL EU once it’s done.
Let’s rock!
Street Fighter League US Week 5!
FlyQuest vs. Cloud9 20–25
Cloud9 takes the 5-point lead over FlyQuest. Going into this week, Bandits, FlyQuest, and Cloud9 were all tied up at 105 points. Lexx and Booce played clean over ChrisCCH and Shine respectively, but a pissed-off Punk tied the match up against JB. In the tie-breaker, Lexx got a single-hit confirm into level 3 and Punk’s momentum came to an end for Cloud9 to take the small lead in points. Noahtheprodigy, who just won Blink Respawn, was again put on the bench again this week. He currently has the least playtime and worst record this season so far. SFLUS is prerecorded, so we’ll most likely see some adjustments from Noah as the weeks go on.
Shopify Rebellion vs. Red Rooster 40–0
In the battle to get out of last place, Shopify Rebellion secures the 40 bomb on Red Rooster. In each matchup, Shopify dominated. Red Rooster still only has 40 points and the rest of the season is not looking great for them. They’ll need some 40 bombs of their own just to even get to a place to qualify for US finals.
Bandits vs. Fighting Spirit 10–30
Fighting Spirit shakes up the leaderboard with an upset against Bandits. In Xian and Zhen, the classic Dee Jay mirror match, Zhen curshied it with perfect reads on Xian’s fireballs. Luiman showed his best in the match between his Dhalsim and DCQ’s Bison, but it just wasn’t enough and DCQ clutched it out. NL’s Akuma was up against Mena’s Zangief and NL played with incredible patience. Mena even swtiched to Blanka, but it wasn’t enough and NL went on to win the tie-breaker to leap Fighting Spirit into 2nd place with 130 points.
- Cloud9 130
- Fighting Spirit 130
- FlyQuest 125
- Bandits 115
- Shopify Rebellion 80
- Red Rooster 40
Standings are looking very different at the end of this week, with Cloud9 and Fighting Spirit in the top two spots. FlyQuest is not far behind with a ten point lead over Bandits. Shopify Rebellion and Red Rooster are still in last place, but we’ve seen NuckleDu and his team in a position like this before so there is a chance of an upset in the later half of the season.
SFL Japan Division F Week 9!
Yogibo REJECT vs. Belc FAV gaming 40–0
REJECT gets yet another 40 bomb over FAV gaming. This team match could not have come at a better time because it easily secures REJECT to the SFLJP playoffs in the top spot for their division. REJECT kind of has a perfect team with one of the GOATs Tokido, the up and coming LeShar, and character specialists Akira and Torimeshii to round it out. They have a week to relax now, but it’ll be exciting to see what they do at playoffs.
At now a 100 point deficit to the next team, CAG OSAKA. FAV gaming has some really strong players who I’m sure will grow from this and take it with them into next season.
Hiroshima TEAM iXA vs. CAG OSAKA 20–25
Things were looking pretty dire for CAG OSAKA until Go1 was able to tie it up for the team. Acqua and Hibiki threw it down with their Blanka and Lily for 20 points to bring them up just enough to top 3. In Hikaru vs. Go1, things weren’t looking great early on so Hikaru decided to switch to his Manon. Apparently, this is a bad matchup for Cammy, but the adjustments weren’t made fast enough, and Go1 made Hikaru switch back to AKI. In the tie-breaker, Go1 was able to get some nasty air grabs over Hikaru’s fireball > jump ins to secure the extra five points. In order to get to playoffs CAG Osaka needs at least 30 points against Belc FAV gaming, and TEAM iXA and Varrel need to get 40 bombed. It’s a long shot, but who knows what will happen next week!
Crazy Racoon vs. Varrel 10–30
Shuto’s win against Daikoku got the ten points for Crazy Racoon to keep them a bit more safely in second place. For Kazunoko vs. Moke, two FGC legends, Moke was able to show that Chun-li has still got it, even in not the best of matchups. Mago played a nasty strike-throw game against Crazy Raccoon’s Bonchan to go 3–0 and secure the 30 points to bring them right outside of top 3.
Division F Standings
1. Yogibo REJECT 285
2. Crazy Raccoon 220
3. Hiroshima TEAM iXA 190
4. VARREL 185
5. CAG OSAKA 160
6. Belc FAV Gaming 80
Going into Week 10, it’s guaranteed that REJECT and Crazy Raccoon will be going on to Playoffs, and unfortunately for Belc FAV gaming, they will not be making an appearance. If CAG can get the 40 bomb on FAV gaming next week, which is likely, TEAM iXA vs. VARREL will be the most important game of Division F next week. It was a close game 20–25 VARREL last time they played in Week 5. If the results are the same for Week 10, VARREL will qualify for finals with a better record as a tie breaker.
edit: I can’t do math. CAG had zero chance to make it into top 3 even with the 40 bomb. But iXA and VARREL’s match will certainly be a battle for third place.
Street Fighter League S Division Week 10!
Saishunkan Sol vs. DetonatioN FocusMe 10–30
At this point it was mathematically impossible for DetonatioN to make it to top three, so this match was not only for pride, but also to gatekeep Saishunkan and it almost worked! If Shinobism gaming was able to get the 40 bomb, they would have gotten third in points and made it to playoffs.
To start the match, we got Nemo’s favorite matchup, Zangief, with his favorite player, Itabashi Zangief. Nemo won all four rounds straight and got the ten points for his team. In the final game, final round, Machabo took it over Fuudo to tie up the match. Machabo has been dominating this season with his Akuma. Not enough to carry his team, but he won 7 out of the 11 matches he played in. Machabo recently got 3rd in the Japan Super Premier, but he is also known for being the 2016 Evo champion for Guilty Gear Xrd: -REVERLATOR-. After getting to set point 2–1 Higuchi gets clapped back by John Takeuchi and brought the set to final game, final round. John Takeuchi shimmied the 20 points for DetonatioN FocusMe. It was Higuchi’s second loss of the whole season.
Shinobism Gaming vs. Nagoya NTPOJA 20–25
Just like the last team match, NTPOJA’s main priority was to gatekeep Shinobism out of top 3, and they had a really good chance to do that. The dream died in the very first set. Mocchi got his very first win of the season against Yamaguchi. It was a clean 4 four rounds and ended with a hard read OD dp. After Fujimura’s loss against otani, team captain Momochi was able to tie it up 3–0 for twenty points, but still lost in the tie breaker against Tachikawa’s relatively new Manon.
Good 8 Squad vs. FUKUSHIMA IBUSHIGIN 20–25
Both teams were already guaranteed for the top two spots to move on to playoffs, but this was to see who would take the number 1 spot for Division S! Yanai played a very patient punish counter game over YHC-Mochi’s Dhalsim. Sasamo looking nice with his Ed got another 10 points for IBUSHIGIN and guaranteed the number one spot for Good 8 Squad. In the captains chair was Gachikun vs. Kakeru. Gachikun tied it up with some nice perfect parries and baits. For the tie breaker, Good 8 sent Kawano with his Akuma and put Sasamo back in with his Ed. Sasamo went in aggressive and won the extra 5 points, didn’t make a difference for standings, but it definitely was worth for the pride.
Here are this year’s final Division S Standings:
1. Good 8 Squad 245
2. FUKUSHIMA IBUSHIGIN 240
3. Saishunkan Sol 235
4. Shinobism Gaming 220
5. Nagoya NTPOJA 160
6. DetonatioN FocusMe 145
Good 8, IBUSHIGIN, and Saishunkan will be going to playoffs to try to become SFLJP champions and get a shot at the qualification spots for Capcom Cup 12 next year.
Street Fighter League Europe!
SFL EU started this Friday and has been live every day since. Day 6 is today and it ends on November 26. I will do a full recap of the event once it’s done, but here are the current standings:
1. Ninjas in Pyjamas 180
2. Aegis 150
3. Mouz 140
4. Wolves Esports 70
5. Guild Esports 30
6. Reason Gaming 30
Just like SFL US, the top four teams will play in the finals to get an opportunity to go to the World Championship for a cash prize and an auto-qualification for the entire team to Capcom Cup 12.
Across the North — European Tekken Cup!
I don’t think I’ve properly introduced the European Tekken Cup on here yet. It’s essentially a Cup/Tour just for European Tekken! It consists of nine regions and it’s all points based. The two players with the most points in each region goes on to finals. Then there are two more spots to be earned through winning a Last Chance Qualifier that is region free. There are regional dojos that earn players points based on how big the event is, but it is limited to that region and then there are Major events that are open to all regions and have massive points to earn.
This past weekend was Across the North in Oslo, Norway. Tetsu from Germany won his second major event of the cup. He is now in first place with a lead of over 400 points in his region. Tetsu got sent to losers by Gosain in Winners Finals, but then brought it back 6–0 with the grand finals reset. Tetsu was last year’s European Tekken Cup Champion and is expected to keep the momentum up this year with his Claudio.

Big Brackets in South America!
This past weekend we also had two majors majors in South America. Astral Finish was in Zapapon, Mexico and Battle Coliseum (with 900 attendees!) was in Sao Paulo, Brasil. Both events were SNK World Championship Qualifiers and Arc World Tour Events. Both Granblue Fantasy Versus : Rising and Guilty Gear -STRIVE- were Gold Events at Astral Finish, but at Battle Coliseum, it was a Platinum event for Granblue, meaning that the winner auto-qualified for AWT. Battle Coliseum’s -STRIVE- bracket was also a Gold Event.
At Astral Finish, DarkAngel wins the spot for the SNK WC. This will be his second appearance at the SNK World Championship. Lokof, who is already qualified got second. SHADOW X got 3rd after an amazing losers run, but got double jeopardied by DarkAngel.
Razzo came into Astral Finish hot after winning DreamHack Atlanta’s -STRIVE- tournament to take first and put themselves into the top ten spot on the AWT leaderboard. Dany “El Maza” and Oso Ragna got second and third respectively.
Zane, who won East Coast Throwdown last month, took the Granblue Bracket at Astral Finish. He is sitting very comfortably at the top of the leaderboard in points now. Nyan-derthal got 2nd to get on the leaderboard and Elsa keeps their spot as well with placing 3rd.
Over in Brasil at Battle Coliseum, Lauyagami wins his second Qualifier event in a row which means that runner up, SharkUrien from Chile will be going to the SNKWC for his first appearance. Kaiser666 rounded out top 3.
On the AWT side of Battle Coliseum, Rang13 won -STRIVE- at the event to be 2nd in points total. BooShy, a Baiken and Johnny player got 2nd, and Lord Knight got 3rd after making it all the way to Winner’s Finals. For Granblue, Ryazo got the auto-qualification and Brazilians JF and Shirou got 2nd and 3rd.

World Warrior Continues!
Four more players have qualified for Capcom Cup XI. First, from US East, the most stacked region besides Japan, iDom returns to Capcom Cup with his Manon. iDom won Capcom Cup in 2019, and his last appearance was getting 3rd in 2023. During the bracket iDom stayed on winners side beating Sayff, Booce, and KAMI.
From South America East, Salvatore from Venezuala qualified. Salvatore is an online warrior who has been competing since 2020. It’ll be his first Capcom Cup pulling up with his Cammy. In his run he had to beat prodigy Craime and top Argentinian player Dookie. He is also the first Venezuelan player to qualify for Capcom Cup.
Central America had both their East and West Regional Finals. Central America East is the region holding the Dominican Republic and Caba qualified. Caba’s Guile beat out teammate Luiman, Ferreras, and Crossover, all Dominican top players. Caba’s team Bandits won SFL last year and this will be his second Capcom Cup. Out of Central America West, Panamanian GranTODAKAI.EX will be making his Capcom Cup premier. Here’s a really cute video of his family celebrating.
Another player to qualify was from Asia East and it was Oil King! Asia East is a Super Region and Oil King qualified through points after week 5 with his Terry. Oil King is a Rashid player from Taiwan who won Street Fighter V at EVO Japan in 2023. This will be his second Capcom Cup.
This past week was also Week 4 of Japan’s World Warrior. It’s crazy how tight the point spread is because the region is just so good. Fuudo won this week, but still anything can happen going into Week 5 on December 8. It is a Super Region so someone will qualify for Capcom Cup through points after Week 5 before the Regional Finals.

Round Robin!
Here’s the other news of the week that didn’t quite fit into a category:
Mortal Kombat 1’s first guest character of the season, Ghostface got his full Gameplay Trailer and is available now for Early Access. His full release will be November 26.
Tickets for Street Fighter League US Finals are for sale. The event is in Los Angeles, California on January 18, 2025
Community Events for CEOtaku were announced this week featuring Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Virtua Fighter 5, and more. CEOtaku is December 20–22. You can sign up for the side events here.
Registration for Cygames Cup 2025 is now open. It is a Platinum Arc World Tour Event for Granblue Fantasy Versus : Rising, and a Gold event for Guilty Gear -STRIVE-. The event is in Yokohama Japan January 18–19, 2025.
Guilty Gear -STRIVE- gets an additional patch following the release ofSeason 4. The patch officially adds the Team of 3 mode as well as bug fixes and some Quality of Life changes. They address some other bugs that have not yet been resolved but will be patched soon.
Tekken player Strog had registered for the Tekken World Tour Last Chance Qualifier, but was banned from participating in the tournament by Bandai Namco Esports. Strog is from Russia and this incident follows Chinese player XCC getting disqualified at Thaiger Uppercut earlier this year. Bandai made an apology to XCC and will be paying for his participation in the LCQ. We’ll see if something similar happens for Strog.
Skullgirls is currently hosting the Skullgirls Slam. It is a similar idea to Sajam Slam taking eight new Skullgirls players and pairing them up with a coach each and the winner gets a trip to Combo Breaker 2025.

Bonus Stage!
I really enjoyed learning about the LEGENDUS Event from Majin Obama, an FGC content creator and Tournament Organizer that lives in Japan. Check it out!
