Round 1

Street Fighter 6 gets a surprise patch, World Warriors move on to Capcom Cup, and the clock is ticking on Street Fighter League US.

Here’s this week’s Set Point! Your FGC News Round Up.

Street Fighter League US Week 7

Shopify Rebellion vs. FlyQuest 20–25

Last time they played, FlyQuest go the 40 bomb over Shopify Rebellion. Shopify changed their strategy putting in Du first, then Dual Kevin. NuckleDu went with the Cammy over Guile against Psycho’s Kimberly. Du used Cammy’s footsies well and while Psycho got three reversal supers correct, it wasn’t enough and Du won the early 10 points for Shopify. Dual Kevin laid it down going 4 rounds straight over ChrisCCH. He played more aggressive than normal and it was the right call. In Sayff vs. Punk, Punk started off the match with Akuma, who he won CEO with earlier this year. Punk has only lost once this season and Sayff has not won a set yet. Sayff took game 1 and ended game 2 with a perfect. It was looking like Sayff’s best performance of the season so far. In game 3 Punk switched to Cammy and didn’t lose a single round. Punk tied it up 20–20 for FlyQuest. Du stepped up to do the mirror match in the tiebreaker against Punk. After a misinput on a cannon spike, Punk took advantage and got the extra 5 points for FQ.

Cloud9 vs. Bandits 40–0

After losing game 1, Zhen ended up switching from Dee Jay to Bison in the set against Cloud9’s Lexx. Zhen overextended just a bit too much and Lexx was able to get the first ten points for Cloud9. JB got a clean 2–0 over caba. The second game was pretty tight, but Caba dropped his game winning combo giving another 10 points for Cloud9. In my favorite set of the night, Booce won 3–0 over MenaRD. Booce played calculated and had an answer for everything getting him a huge 40 bomb for Cloud9. This was the highlight for me, this answer to the blanka chan set up was straight up out of the matrix.

Red Rooster vs. Fighting Spirit 10–30

Brutus got his first win this week playing against Oil King! Both players played lame for most of the match. Just like we saw Mena do last week, Brutus baited Oil King’s OS reversal on drive rush for the win. Ajax kept up Red Rooster’s momentum taking game 1 of the set over NL. NL picked up on Ajax approach and brought it back 2–1 for Fighting Spirit. Uriel was able to secure an early win in the set, but once DCQ switched from Bison to JP it was over for Red Rooster.

SFL US Standings Week 7
1. Fighting Spirit 200
2. FlyQuest 190
3. Cloud9 170
4. Bandits 140
5. Shopify Rebellion 120
6. Red Rooster 50

Fighting Spirit maintains their dominant status in the number 1 spot, but both FlyQuest and Cloud9 are close behind. Shopify stays in the game with being only 20 points behind Bandits. Shopify needs to keep getting at least 20 points each week to get into that top 4 spot. While Red Rooster finally gets their first points in a while, the chances for them to make it to finals this point are very close to zero. They will have to focus on gatekeeping the league for the next few weeks.

European Tekken Cup Hidden Retreat

Over in Switzerland, we had this weekend’s European Tekken Cup Tournamanet: Hidden Retreat. Danielmado won the bracket going 3–2 over Tetsu. Tetsu came into grand finals with Shaheen, but after game 1 went back to Claudio, but still took the L. We had a couple of Paul’s which is fun to see with Hexmark and ErnieBowl who got 3rd and 4th. The Spaniards Lain and Tibetano got 5th/6th and then Switzerland’s own chucky z and French Yoshimitsu main, Cauchemarre got 7th/8th.

From their results ErnieBowl and Lain are now in the running to play in the Finals of the cup.

VOD and Bracket Details

Tekken World Tour Finals are this weekend so ETC will take a week off until it returns next weekend with Enders Zone Evolution 4 in Madrid.

Speaking of TWT, Tekken came out and stated that there will be no character or season 2 reveals at the event. Some Tekken fans are speculating that we may see something at The Game Awards on December 12 (I hope to see some King of Fighters/Fatal Fury news too!).

Street Fighter Updates and World Warriors Join Capcom Cup XI

In the course of a week, Capcom announced and released what they called a minor balance patch with universal changes to sweep, throws, and tweaks to every character in the roster. While it’s hard to tell how the tiers of the game will be, some of the early looking winners of the patch were Rashid, Kimberly, Terry, Luke, Ryu, and maybe Jamie? Some of the losers were Cammy, Ed, and Bison.

The patch rolled out right before two Super Premier Regional Finals US-Canada West and Brazil. Godspeed to those players.

If you haven’t yet, you can claim this code for a free EX Bison Color that Capcom released along with the patch.

Before the patch released, we got a new class of World Warriors qualifying for Capcom Cup:

NL
Liquipedia

NL won the stacked South Korean regional final beating Armperor’s Ken. NL got 4th place in last year’s Capcom Cup, and Capcom Cup 11 will be his 3rd. Some of NL’s other highlights are getting 3rd at the Esports World Cup this year, getting 5th at CEO, winning Combo Breaker in 2018 and winning Street Fighter League US in 2022. His team on SFLUS this year, Fighting Spirit, is currently in first place. He mained Luke in season 1 and is currently maining Akuma. NL is also a great KOF ‘98 player.

Big Bird
Liquipedia

While qualifying with enough points by Week 4, Big Bird officially gets the ticket to Capcom Cup. If you didn’t know, Big Bird is one of the two “Birds” coming out of the Middle East, the other being Angry Bird who won the first Street Fighter 6 Evo. Big Bird has a record of being a part of winning teams in Street Fighter League, and has gotten second place at Evo twice. This will be Big Bird’s 6th Capcom Cup and with his Rashid not receiving any changes in the latest patch, he is sure to have a strong performance this year.

Broski
Liquipedia
YouTube

One of UK’s best FGC creators, Broski, won the UK/Ireland Regional Final with his AKI. This was his best performance since almost beating MenaRD in the last Red Bull Kumite in Brooklyn. Back in the Street Fighter V days, he was an Oro main and continues to be a lab monster and share his tech on his popular YouTube channel. In 2022, his team won the first Street Fighter League Europe. This will be his first Capcom Cup and I’m sure he will document his journey of preparing over the next couple of months.

Deiver
Liquipedia

Chilean living abroad, Deiver gets the spot for Spain-Portugal. The 21 year old will be coming in hot with his Ed in his first Capcom Cup.

Si Anik
Liquipedia

Si Anik from Bangladeshi won the Asia South Regional Final with his Chun-Li. This will be his second Capcom Cup.

Kilzyou
Liquipedia

Kilzyou from France qualifies for Capcom Cup with his Cammy through points. This will be his second Capcom Cup. A fun fact about him is that he also has multiple championship’s in Konami’s eFootball series.

GGHalibel
Liquipedia

GGHalibel will be going to his second Capcom Cup after winning the Germany Regional Finals. He’s been playing since the Street Fighter IV days and is hoping to get out of his pool this year.
