World Warrior Japan Regional Finals
Legendary player, Fuudo wins his first Street Fighter 6 Capcom Cup Qualification. Many fans were hoping to see Momochi, known for taking his characters to the next level, get the final seat.
Fuudo is well known internationally as a Street Fighter player since Street Fighter 4, but he also happens to be one of the world’s best Virtua Fighter players as well.

This past weekend was Cygames Cup, a tournament series organized by Cygames who developed. of Granblue Fantasy Versus : Rising. This year, they collaberated with Arc System works to add Guilty Gear -STRIVE- as a Gold Event for the Arc World Tour. For the major game, Granblue it was a Platinum event, meaning there were a lot of points for getting top 3 and the winner autoqualified for the Finals.
For Guilty Gear -STRIVE-, this year’s Evo runner up tatuma won with his Sol Badguy.
In a stacked 221 person bracket, multi-Evo champion Gamera came out on top to claim his spot for finals. Gamera got sent to losers by Osakana-san in Winners Semis and fought his way through losers to win the grand finals reset 3–0 in the runback against Osakana-san. In his run, Gamera eliminated barutorec and Tororo who got 3rd and 4th respectively.

Fan favorite character Sandalphon, finaly joins the Granblue cast. More Sandalphon gameplay details as well as what will be included in the 2.00 version of Granblue will be streamed by Cygames on Febraury 21.

Mortal Kombat!
On Wednesday of last week, this year’s Mortal Kombat 1 Pro Kompetition was fully detailed. There are 10 offline events to be included in the tour as well as online qualifiers. You can find more details about the full league on https://start.gg/ProKompetition The first stop on the tour is Pro Kompetition Mexico in Mexico CIty on Febraury 22.

Along with the Early Access release of Conan the Barbarian, Mortal Kombat 1 got its January patch. There were lots of bug fixes, Quality of Life adjustments, and balance changes to the characters.

SNK: King of Fighters and Fatal Fury!
Ring Magazine announced a collaberation with SNK’s Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves for a series of boxing matches named after the game. This is the second sports collaberation for SNK following the mysterious Crisiano Ronaldo announcement three months ago.

SNK finally detailed the physical editions for CotW. It’s getting a physical release for Playstation 4, Playstation 5, and Xbox Series X. The $59.99 physical base game will include the five Season Pass 1 characters including Ken and Chun-li from Street Fighter. A collector’s edition was announced for the PS5 version with a collector’s box, steelbook, soundtrack, artbook, a double-sided poster, and stickers. You can preorder the colelctor’s edition at Best Buy. Other retailers have yet to release their info.

If you are looking to buy KOF XIII Steam Edition, you may be out of luck pretty soon. SNK is delisting that version of the game in place of the Global Match version. KOF XIII GM will release February 20 and if you already have the Steam Edition you will get a discount on your purchase. In case you weren’t aware, Global Match will release with rollback and hopefully not have the framerate issues the original steam edition suffered.

Round Robin!
Last week Tekken 8 got it’s first patch of the year adding customizable characters to the main menu, new punishment settings in practice mode, and character balance changes including Clive nerfs for his stronger buttons. You can read the patch notes here.

For you Under Night In-Birth 2 PC players, an HD mod called UNI2 Vanialla+ has been released. This mod allows for up 1440p resolution and other QoL changes. For reference the PC version of UNI2 only goes up to 720p, which is not great for those that have 4K monitors.

The teams for Sajam Slam have been underway training. The teams will face each other today January 22 and 24th in a round robin, and the Qualifiers/Finals will be this weekend January 26
Coming out of Frosty Faustings will be much more Hunter x Hunter Nen Impact details. There will be a playble build of the game at Frosty Faustings the entire weekend. Hopefully we’ll get a release date and more characters announced!

PlayStation Tournaments had a unique esports event called XP featuring a gauntlet of games including FC 25 (EA soccer), Fortnite, Astro Bot, and Tekken 8. While most of the games were not fighting games, the Tekken round included Ryan Hart, Arslan Ash, Cuddlecore, and Kayane. You can watch the Tekken matches here:

Arc System Works came out with a statement this week saying that the next DLC character Venom will be released after the Arc World Tour Finals in mid March. In the notice they said they were delaying the character to focus on improvements to training mode and matchmaking. Many notable players, including Kizzy Kay and Hotashi, have critiqued the game’s online experience being sub par to current standards.

Thanks again for reading. I’m going to be taking a break from Weekly Set Point posts. I’m really questioning my use of Twitter after this week. It’s my best source for news and updates directly from game developers and publishers. Between that and the performance of “news” vs. “recap” videos on YouTube, I think I want to take Set Point and my content in another direction. It’s my goal to help grow the FGC and tell the stories from our competitions and triumphs.
